Agriculture extension can help farmers to adopt more sustainable and productive farming practices, and to make better use of natural resources such as water and land.

Despite the importance of agriculture extension, the sector faces a number of challenges. One of the main challenges is the lack of funding and resources for agriculture extension organizations. Many agriculture extension organizations rely on government funding, which can be unpredictable and subject to political pressures. Another challenge is the lack of trained personnel in the agriculture extension sector.
